Music, Mentors, and Moments That Last
Sometimes the most powerful lessons don’t happen in a classroom — they happen on stage.

At this year’s Michael Simmons Musical Festival, our Club kids from the Michael E. Simmons Acoustic Guitar Program traded screens for strings, stepping into the spotlight alongside world-class musicians. With guidance from instructors at the Hartt School of Music Community Division, they’ve been learning not just how to play, but how to express themselves, take risks, and discover the joy of creating something real with their own hands.
Watching them perform was a reminder of what’s at the heart of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford: opening doors. Every time a young person walks through our Blue Door, they enter a space filled with opportunities to grow, imagine, and lead. And when our community comes together — families, partners, mentors — those doors open even wider.
We’re grateful to the Simmons family, Friends of Michael festival organizers, and all of our partners for making moments like this possible. Because Hartford needs Club kids. And Club kids need you.
