Joseph Bumpers III
Vice President of Facilities & Safety

Contact JoeJoseph W. Bumpers III is the Vice President of Facilities and Safety at Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford. Joe was a Club kid at Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford and in his current role focuses on strategic planning and goal setting while directing BGC Hartford operations including Program Development, Staff Management, Facilities Management, Budget, Capacity Building, Community Collaborations and assisting the COO with Training/Professional Development. Prior to joining Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford in 2005, Joe was Program Coordinator for Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration’s Education Center. He oversaw all program operations which consisted of staff management, facility maintenance, marketing, and taught educational classes, and maintained exhibits. Joe is a former member of the Greater Hartford YMCA Board of Directors and in 2008, became an ordained Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ at True Love Holiness Church of Jesus Christ, and teaches Bible & Sunday school. He studied at Central Connecticut State University and his participated in extensive trainings through Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
Tomeka Cole

Contact TomekaTomeka joined Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford in May 2024. As a proud Hartford native, she brings nearly 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector, primarily with the United Way network.
Tomeka is not only a seasoned non-profit professional but also an accomplished entrepreneur. For more than 20 years, she operated Exquisite Events by Meeka, a successful event planning business. As part of this venture, she founded Club EE by Me, a subsidiary that empowered youth through creative “make and take” programs. These programs taught children, ages 6-12, valuable life skills -including baking and personal development- and fostered empowerment and creativity.
Tomeka’s deep commitment to the mission and movement of Boys & Girls Clubs is inspired by her late husband, Dynale Martin. An alum of the JDL Northwest Club, his dedication to the organization has profoundly influenced her own passion for youth development. In his honor, Tomeka established the Dynale Martin Foundation in 2015 which empowers youth through free basketball clinics.
Tomeka’s University of Hartford education has helped foster her strong operational skills, her ability to connect with people and her unwavering dedication to make a positive impact in her community.
Veronica Collins-Lucas

Vice President for Human Resources

Contact VeronicaVeronica Collins-Lucas spent more than a decade with BlumShapiro serving as their Organizational Development Manager, Human Resources Specialist, Supervisor, and Administrator before finally becoming the Human Resources Manager. Her time in these positions allowed her to accumulate a vast amount of knowledge and skills that she brings to BGCH as the VP for Human Resources.
Veronica is responsible for helping with leadership of the club, strategic planning, talent and resource management, partnership development, marketing and public relations, and much more. She looks to keep a healthy and happy work environment by establishing and implementing policies and procedures for effective management of BGCH while complying with federal, state, and local regulations. Veronica is certified as an SPHR as well as a SHRM-SCP and obtained her B.S. in Business Administration from Albertus Magnus College.
Chantel Gray
Vice President of Program Services

Contact ChantelChantel has been involved with several Boys & Girls Clubs since 2003 and has more than 20 years of experience as a youth development practitioner. Her extensive time with the program and wide variety of experience allow her to excel in her position as Vice President of Program services where she is responsible for collaborating with development to secure grant and corporate partnerships, as well as supporting and establishing new initiatives. She has recently identified opportunities and created significant partnerships that align with the organization’s vision, resulting in funding worth $20,000 for the RKIDZ Parent Group. Chantel is very passionate about her job, grateful that she can witness BGCH’s mission in action every day and is committed to serving our youth and their families. She earned her B.S. in Social Work from Western Connecticut State University and was also awarded Connecticut’s Association Professional of the Year in 2012. Outside of work, Chantel enjoys writing and participating in charity events for her church.
John Rollins

Contact JohnJohn Rollins has taken on the role of Vice President of Finance at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford since December 2025. He brings with him an impressive 35 years of diverse experience in financial and strategic planning, along with business affairs and operations within the sports industry.
In his position, John is responsible for overseeing all financial and business functions at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford. This includes developing financial strategies, engaging in strategic planning, and driving key internal initiatives. He is also tasked with modernizing and streamlining fiscal processes while acting as the staff liaison to both the Executive Committee and the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors.
Prior to joining the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford, John held several executive finance leadership positions at notable organizations including Beat the Streets Wrestling in NYC, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), the New York Athletic Club (NYAC), the University of Hartford's Department of Athletics, and most significantly, the National Football League and ESPN.
John earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics from Fordham University, where he is also recognized as a member of the Fordham Athletics Hall of Fame for his achievements in men’s soccer.

Lourdes Carrasco

Contact LourdesLourdes Carrasco joined Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford as a School Director in 2018, eventually advancing to Southwest Boys & Girls Club Director as well as the DCF Case Manager.
Prior to joining BGCH, Lourdes was a Family Peer Support Specialist at the Community Health Center of Middletown where she provided support for all young adult and families to become independent. She also worked as a residential counselor for Vinfen Inc., where she provided consumers a daily life structure to practice becoming independent as well as providing a safe environment for staff and clients residing in the home. She was able to take all the skills and knowledge from her previous roles to BGCH to help our youth prosper.
Lourdes graduated from Springfield College.
Khahari Mangual

Contact KhahariKhahari Mangual has been with Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford for the past eight years, both as a Club member and a dedicated member of the staff. He credits his time at the Boys & Girls Club of helping him to discover his true purpose – serving the children in our community who need us the most. As the 2016 Youth of the Year for Connecticut, Khahari was inspired to embrace leadership and work towards making a positive impact in the community. His professional journey has led him to become the Club Director of the Boys & Girls Club at Trinity College. In this capacity, he is committed to providing our members with the incredible experiences and opportunities that the Boys and Girls Club of Hartford is known for.

Contact ShyheimShyheim is a club alumnus of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford, attending the JDL Northwest Boys & Girls Club. Being involved since the age of 6, he has been involved in all aspects of the club from volunteering and taking on leadership roles which ultimately led to a career with Boys & Girls Clubs.
Starting in 2019 as a Youth Development Professional and Education Assistant at Asylum Hill, he facilitated programs that promoted Academic Success and Health & Wellness. In 2021, he was promoted to the Workforce Readiness manager and supported teens with financial literacy, college readiness and career preparation. Now, as the Club Director of the Samuel S. Gray, Jr. Boys & Girls Club at Asylum Hill, he is advocating and providing support to our families, fostering our community, and creating a safe and positive environment for our youth.

Contact KeithaKeitha Ingram began her journey with the Boys & Girls Club as a member. She founded a summer basketball league at the Club in 2006 in memory of her late brother. With the support of Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford and former President & CEO Sam Gray, a scholarship honoring her brother was established at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. She joined the Club as an employee in 2020, working at the Samuel S. Gray, Jr. Boys & Girls Club at Asylum Hill and the Joseph D. Lapenta Northwest Boys & Girls Club where she served as the Health & Wellness Manager and pillar lead for the organization. Now as Club Director of the South End Club, Keitha is passionate about increasing membership and helping kids recover from the lasting effects of the Covid Pandemic. She is motivated by watching members grow throughout their time in the Club and through participation in the programs offered. She strives to make the Boys & Girls Club a safe haven for all young people.

Contact CandyCandy Sanders was recruited by CEO Sam Gray in 2014 to institute the Early Learning Center at the Asylum Hill Boys & Girls Club. She originally started with an empty room and only three kids, but now is at full capacity and oversees 40 young club members. Under her leadership, the Early Learning Center has maintained a five-star rating from the State of Connecticut and the National Association for Education of Young Children.
Recently, Candy was selected to be honored at the 8th Annual 100 Women of Color Gala and Awards. Candy earned her BS in Early Childhood Education and Administration from Charter Oak College and holds two ADs from Indiana State University and Bay Path University.

Misty Amarena

Contact MistyMisty Amarena joined the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford as the Director of Corporate Engagement in August 2024, bringing more than 12 years of expertise in philanthropy, volunteer management, and community development. With a strong commitment to empowering young people, Misty is enthusiastic about fostering meaningful partnerships with corporate allies and their teams to make a significant impact on Greater Hartford’s youth.
Before joining BGCH, Misty honed her skills as the Executive Director of Backyard Harvest and in various roles with Junior Achievement of Southwest New England. During this time she excelled in driving revenue growth, engaging volunteers, and forging robust community connections. Her background reflects a proven track record of leadership and collaboration. A West Coast native, Misty holds a M.Ed. from the University of Southern California and a B.A. in Education from the University of Idaho.
She is a passionate advocate for building a positive team culture and believes deeply in the transformative power of community. Misty is dedicated to supporting the next generation in reaching their full potential and living their best lives.
Marcia Herrera
Director of Philanthropic Partnerships

Contact MariaMarcia joined the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford in December 2025, bringing more than 25 years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, and event leadership. Her career has been rooted in mission-driven organizations with a strong focus on advancing education, supporting underserved communities, and expanding opportunity for youth and families.
Marcia has led fundraising strategy, donor cultivation, and signature events for organizations including Grace Academy and the American Red Cross. She is the founder and former chair of The Power of Grace, Grace Academy’s signature event, and previously chaired the American Red Cross Heroes Breakfast in support of disaster relief programs.
In addition to her nonprofit work, Marcia brings an entrepreneurial background through her leadership roles with MH Custom Imports, Trans Atlantic Freight, and Bella Rosa International, where she directed marketing, logistics, and budget management. She also launched various cause marketing initiatives benefiting organizations such as the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, and local public schools. Fluent in Spanish and culturally competent, Marcia is equipped to build meaningful relationships and expand trusted networks. She is deeply committed to the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford and believes every young person deserves access to opportunity, mentorship, and the resources needed to succeed.
Mary Beth Kiernan-Gonzalez

Contact Mary BethMary Beth Kiernan-Gonzalez brings more than 20 years of dedicated service to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford, where she has built a career rooted in mission, impact, and community connection. A Hartford native, Mary Beth began her journey with BGCH as a volunteer and has since held several progressive leadership roles, including Unit Director and Grants Manager.
In her current role as Director of Grants & Continuous Improvement, Mary Beth leads the organization’s grant strategy, overseeing proposal development, compliance, and reporting for public and private funding sources. She plays a critical role in advancing organizational sustainability by researching and cultivating funding opportunities, strengthening cross-departmental collaboration, and ensuring alignment between programming, outcomes, and funder priorities. She also oversees data tracking and analysis efforts that demonstrate BGCH’s impact on youth and support continuous quality improvement across all program areas.
Mary Beth is deeply committed to the success of Hartford’s young people and is known for her institutional knowledge, strategic thinking, and collaborative leadership style. Her longstanding dedication to BGCH, combined with her passion for equity and youth development, continues to drive meaningful outcomes for the organization and the communities it serves.
Tiarra Y. Cobb
Donor Relations & Data Coordinator

Contact TiarraTiarra Y. Cobb serves as the Donor Relations & Data Coordinator for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford, where she has been a dedicated member of the Development team since January 2, 2025. With more than a decade of administrative and operational experience, Tiarra brings precision, integrity, and heart to the work of strengthening donor relationships and ensuring the accuracy of fundraising data.
In her role, Tiarra manages the organization’s donor database, oversees gift entry and reconciliation, and ensures timely acknowledgment and stewardship for supporters at every level. She plays a key role in coordinating direct mail campaigns, supporting special events, and collaborating closely with Finance and Development leadership to maintain consistent, transparent reporting. Her work helps ensure that every gift is honored accurately and that donors feel valued and connected to the mission.
Tiarra is known for her strong attention to detail, thoughtful communication style, and ability to balance behind-the-scenes data management with relationship-centered donor engagement. She also supports donor research, prospect tracking, and cultivation efforts that help advance long-term fundraising goals.
She approaches her work as both a steward of data and a champion of purpose, believing that strong systems and genuine relationships are essential to creating great futures for Hartford’s youth.

Contact PatrickPatrick joined Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford in September 2024. Prior, he served as a Senior Grants Associate with the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. Patrick assists the Director of Grants & Continuous Improvement in growing and managing the grants portfolio (government, foundation, and corporate), including research, writing proposals, reporting, communicating with funders, maintaining grant records and managing a grants calendar.
He holds a MA in Pastoral Studies from Aquinas Institute of Theology (St. Louis, MO) and a MS in Nonprofit Management from Regis University (Denver, CO). Patrick is an active member of the Grant Professionals Association and the Project Management Institute and serves as a grants consultant with Petrus Development. In his spare time, he enjoys woodworking, hiking, photography and reading books by J. R. R. Tolkien.

Contact LisaLisa Pierce is the Executive Assistant to the President and CEO. She joined BGCH in 2020 and loves to be a part of something bigger than herself and enjoys learning more and more about the Boys & Girls Clubs every day. Lisa has 27 years of banking experience having worked for Fleet Financial and Bank of America where she was promoted three times in seven years. Following her banking career Lisa was the Executive Office Manager with My Sisters’ Place and Development Director Assistant at Holy Apostles College & Seminary. Outside of work, Lisa enjoys cooking and volunteering feeding the homeless.
