Through our Health & Wellness programs, our members develop the capacity to engage in positive behaviors that enhance their physical and mental health and nurture their well-being.
They find support and tools to help process and heal from social & emotional trauma, set personal goals, and grow into self-sufficient adults.
HEATH & WELLNESS PROGRAMS
SMART Girls
SMART (Skill Mastery and Resilience Training) Girls is a program that helps young women, ages 8 to 18, adopt a healthy attitude and lifestyle, acquire and maintain positive a self-concept, develop sound decision-making skills and seek out positive peer relationships. Through dynamic sessions, field trips and mentorship opportunities with female role-models, girls build skills for eating right, staying physically fit, caring for themselves and others and developing positive relationships with peers and adults. Each year a SMART Girl of the Year is selected for her qualities as a leader and role model and honored at the Dashaway Luncheon.

Passport to Manhood
The Passport to Manhood program is a targeted effort to engage young men, ages 8 to 18, in discussions and activities that reinforce character, leadership and positive behavior. The program recognizes and underscores the personal, and often challenging, journey of maturation and growth from boyhood to manhood. It addresses critical issues that young men face during this time including conflict resolution, diversity, notions surrounding fatherhood and cooperation while teaching strategies for sound decision-making, physical & mental wellness, positive relationships and self-esteem.

All-Star Sports Leagues
All-Star Sports Leagues engage members in high-quality organized athletics including basketball, flag football, and volleyball. Participation in these teams ignites a passion in young people while teaching them skills that will help them compete on and off the field. Members learn what it means to belong and commit to a team, good sportsmanship and teamwork, all while building self-esteem.

Healthy Habits
The Healthy Habits program teaches young people positive health and nutrition behaviors while encouraging them to make smart choices to enhance their physical & mental health and well-being. They learn how to recognize, consider, and choose healthy behaviors such as balanced nutrition and ample exercise and are equipped with the tools and resources they need to manage emotions and build resiliency.

Positive Action
The Positive Action program is based on the philosophy that young people feel good about themselves when they do positive actions. The evidence-based curriculum equips youth with life skills essential to their personal and academic success. It covers a wide range of topics ranging from responsible decision making to identifying self-concept and making positive choices for the body and mind. It encourages young people to be honest with themselves, to manage their resources -such as time, energy, talents, thoughts, actions and feelings – and to treat others with empathy and respect.
