The Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford Provides a Safe, Nurturing Place for Youth and Teens
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford’s doors are open after school Monday through Friday. Our Clubs provide a safe space to learn, grow, exercise, and contribute. We build self-esteem and teach healthy habits that can translate to greater success in life.
We offer a variety of programs designed to guide Club members ages 3 to 18 on the path toward a successful future. Our programs inspire and challenge Club members, build self-esteem and enable youth and teens to realize their full potential. Our Six Pillars focus on Academic Success, Health & Wellness, Character & Leadership, STEAM, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Workforce Readiness.
Academic Success
Through our Academic Success programs, we are developing globally competitive graduates. These programs are designed to ensure that all Club members graduate from high school on time, ready for post-secondary education and a 21st Century career. See Academic Success programs.
Health & Wellness
Through our Health & Wellness programs, our members find support and tools to help with social and emotional trauma. These programs develop young people’s capacity to engage in positive behaviors to nurture their well-being, set personal goals, and grow into self-sufficient adults. See Health & Wellness programs.
Sports & Recreation
Our Sports & Recreation programs promote healthy development. Members engage in a variety of physical activities that build positive relationships with peers and encourage healthy habits. See Sports & Recreation programs.
Character & Leadership
Through our Character & Leadership programs, we are helping youth become responsible, caring citizens and acquire skills to participate in the democratic process. Our Club members develop leadership skills and gain opportunities for planning, decision-making, contributing to the Clubs and the community, and celebrating our national heritage. See Leadership & Service programs.
STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math
Through our STEAM programs, the Boys & Girls Clubs are committed to closing the opportunity gap in science, technology, arts, and mathematics with innovative and creative programs and activities for our Club Members. After-school and summer learning environments provide unique opportunities to advance STEAM knowledge and increase interest in STEAM-related careers. See STEAM programs.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Through our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs we are removing barriers to opportunity and advancement so that we can continue to move towards racial equity by shaping a robust dialogue among Club leaders, staff, volunteers, and young people. These specialized initiatives provide Club staff with training and resources to ensure young people who are frequently marginalized or overlooked can be included and supported at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford. See Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs.
Workforce Readiness
Through our Workforce Readiness programs, we are empowering young people to succeed. To help them meet the workforce challenges of tomorrow: they need safe places, positive mentorship, and work experience. At the Boys & Girls Clubs, we allow youth and teens to explore their interests and passions, develop their employability skills, and apply their knowledge to real-world work experiences. See Workforce Readiness programs.
